- Got the FE3 + gearbox + old subframe out of the car (still trying to find a early rx7 bellhousing tho :()

- The FD front cover is no good, apparently the only bolt up to their appropriate end plates :( Same goes with water pumps (without modification at least). So looks like I will stick with the 12at stuff, and maybe just try run ribbed belt pullys instead of the v-belts (if they get enough traction).

You havnt done alot with rotors have ya?? S1 bellhousings are easy as to find, I paid $100 for 3 of them not long ago. Has anyone told you your also going to need the S1 bearing cover? That is going to be fun to find (read totally impossible) if it doesnt come with your bellhousing.

Batty/jcs run different plates to other motors and so are only compatible with their own series parts, if you want to change the front cover to a non front mount one use a series 4/5 one as this will still give the oil feed line for the turbo and will bolt straight on and retain 12a waterpump.
Why are you changing the drive belts? if your not going gilmers then vs are the best bet, I certainly wouldnt be fucking round going to flat ribbed belts.

Nope, not much with rotors before. Just this and an FC.

The old man should have a bearing cover so no problems there.

Not much has been happening recently. Clearing out space in the garage, and had a major release at work so long hours there.

Got the interior tidied up tho, and finished wire brushing the front cover on the engine. Next job is to clean up the box, and attack the bay with some wax/grease remover!

Been inspired to get some more work done, want to get the car done for the October meet...

Almost done cleaning the engine bay, and I started dummy assembling the engine to make a list of all the nuts/studs/gaskets I need.

Yeah, I'm pretty confident I have most of the parts I need :) And I think I have a pretty good memory when it comes to Cosmo engine bays - so I don't really imagine reassembling will be too much of an issue.

Plus, it's not really a resto - a lot of things in the engine bay are going to change. Although I am aiming for it too still look relatively standard.

Picked up some grease/tar remover yesterday, so I think I have everything to finish cleaning the bay this weekend, and give the engine a final wipe down before painting.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what style nuts to use for the exh man/turbo? I was going to ring mazda and get the genuine parts, but I have been told bronze nuts are good to use with steel studs?

Oh, and if anyone has any pics of standard rotary airbox mounting brackets, I would really really love to see 'em :)

Standard exhaust nuts that come on any turbo rotary do a very good job. Have had problems with others in the past.

Will get the pics of the factory airbox brackets today and send them to ya.

Mazda quoted me $15/nut, so looks like I'll just go through my bolt bin :)

Also got recommended nord lock washers which I think I'll use.

Yeah you want to get the locking nut the are a bit squashed at the top of the nut. Make sure you do them up real tight and use some antisezie paste. Then after you run up the engine and the exhaust gets hot retighten them.
If you do all that you should have no probs with any coming loose. =)

Heh, yeah October would have been great...

Too many other things in my life happening, and other priorities have caused not much to happen unfortunately. Just been doing little labour intensive stuff like sanding the engine bay, wirebrushing the engine, planning out the new loom.

I'll update here when something interesting happens :(

Also, turns out my HT18S-BM has a different exhaust cover shape than my HT18-BM - anyone run into this before? It sits too close to the engine on my 12at exhaust manifold so I can't run it :( The S is the better facelift turbo too... guess I'll just have to run the HT18-BM
