FC3S complete rear subframe
« on: July 22, 2009, 08:55:22 PM »
A couple of recent posts got me thinking... there is talk about trying to retrofit a FC3S diff into an HB. How about the whole subframe?

HB:
(attached)

FC:

Sure, the diff mounts are closer together on the FC - but a piece of plate steel with 4 holes in it would fix that.

The chassis mounts look bloody similar, as do the relative location of the hubs. Maybe this is worth looking into?

How sweet would that be if the rear subframes were interchangable!!!

Yeah it would be a good thing to look into.
Do you have a fc subframe to take any measurements off?

HC 929 is a much better rear end than FC to work with if your going to modify one to fit. Was looking to try and modify a 929 one to go in a big power FC.

Hard to explain with out a pick to show, but end of the day the HC does not suffer from the massive camber problems like a FC, Dato 1600 when on power. Keeps lots more tread on the road when going hard. Cant belive mazda put this rear end in the cruzer and the crap one in the sports car. Ill find a pic of both and post them when i can.

We had my Luce up on the hoist and did some quick figs against the FC and they are not that different, would still need custom work but anything is possible. Yes there would be some reason why mazda did it this way.

Does anyone have a subframe they can measure up? I got the measurements for an FC frame, but don't have access to my HB ones until Sunday.

FC3S, between chassis mounts:  1150mm  +or-2mm

Yeah you can put a FC lsd in a HC.

A HC rear end is a bit more like a 4 link style so when the car wheel goes up and down it stays straight with no extra camber.

You really need to check one out and you will see what i mean.

There are plenty of HC's around for parts

Had a quick measure up of a HB subframe, was only a guess cos it was under a pile of shit, but seems around 1100mm... so a FC subframe could be close to bolt in :O
